Toyota recalls 729,000 cars | Airbag Problems

The automaker Toyota announced Wednesday the recall of more than 729,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada, to avert a wiring problem that could interfere with the driver's airbag and a switch problem at startup.

Toyota said it was unaware of "accidents or injuries caused by these two" situations.

Much reminders for Tacoma pick-ups, models from 2005 to 2009: "Due to the design of a spiral cable of the steering wheel, and unique features to the chassis of Tacoma, a friction between the cable spiral ( compartment of the cable) may occur in some vehicles, "said Toyota.

"Eventually the friction can cause a lack of connectivity with the airbag module. Without connectivity, the warning lamp of the air bag may remain lit after startup, and the airbag can be disabled, "said the builder.

Recalls Camry and Venza

In addition, more than 73,000 Camry sedans and nearly 144,000 Venza models from 2009 to 2011, have a brake light problem.

"During the installation of the brake light switch on assembly lines in North America, silicon grease may have slipped inside the switch," causing an electrical resistance.

"If that happens, the lights warning panel may light, the vehicle may not start, or the shift lever can get stuck in position 'Park'. In some cases, the brake lights can not walk anymore, "said Toyota.

Between September 2009 and February 2010, the first Japanese manufacturer had to return to the garage almost nine million cars for a variety of technical problems, including accelerator pedals that can get stuck in the depressed position and braking systems reacting belatedly.

This case had seriously damaged its image of reliability, particularly in the U.S. where most of the recalls have been ordered.

The group, now extremely careful, since a process with many reminders even in the absence of verified on accidents.
