China 'highest energy consumer'

China overtake the United States as the largest energy consumer in the world for the first time.

While figures from the International Energy Agency (IEA) show that China's energy demand will double in this decade.

IEA says China occupies the first position because it is not so hit by the global financial crisis than the United States.

China questioned the report, saying those numbers are not trustworthy.

Based on IEA report Tuesday, the U.S. has become the biggest energy consumer during the more than 100 years. But China's rapid economic growth in two decades has pushed him into the highest energy consumers.

Substantial increases in energy demand in China was triggered also by population growth.

The use of asbestos danger

Experts have warned of a possible increase in victims who died in two decades in the future because of the continuing use of asbestos, particularly in developing countries.

In a BBC investigative journalist and investigativ consortium, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists track usage of millions of dollars to promote the sale of asbestos to developing countries, which have no strict rules related to safety of workers.

Asbestos industry said the form used today is that they think white asbestos is safe if handled properly. White asbestos used in construction and widely used in developing countries to the roof of the house, plumbing and other building materials.

But the scientists warned that asbestos can cause cancer.

Countries such as Russia, China, Brazil, and India using asbestos as building materials are cheap.

China has strict regulations about the use of asbestos, but small companies are not supervised.

In 2009, Canada exported 153 000 tonnes of asbestos to Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and United Arab Emirates.

White asbestos is prohibited or restricted in around 52 countries with the excuse of asbestos in any form can cause disease.
Resistance

Many scientists fear could cause the use of asbestos-related disease epidemic of this building material that starts when the blue and white asbestos is still legal.


WHO said white asbestos may "cause cancer in humans", including mesothelioma.

Dr. Vinence Cogliano, International Agency for Cancer Research under the WHO, said: "My personal opinion is a very high risk of asbestos. This material risks as well as other carcinogens materials, except maybe to smoke a cigarette.

"Anyone who can extend the epidemic of asbestos-exposed, in the form of exports and the continued use of this material may increase lung cancer and a type of cancer, in the coming decades," said Cogliano.

But proponents emphasize the use of asbestos safely can prevent various diseases including cancer, and a number of people have even suggested that there was no material relationship with the cancer altogether.

WHO said 125 million people exposed to white asbestos in their workplaces and the International Labor Organization, ILO estimates that 100 000 workers die each year because of asbestos related diseases.

Chelsea won 3-0 over Arsenal

Didier Drogba scored twice to ensure Chelsea's 3-0 victory over Arsenal in the English Premier League continued.
With this victory, Chelsea's increasingly strong position in the first rank, by collecting 36 points, five points better than second place Manchester United.

United on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Porstmouth Wayne Rooney scored three goals, two of them from the penalty spot.

In another derby match on Sunday, Liverpool won 2-0 over Everton, derby-212 to between the clubs.

Two goals scored by Drogba, making him now scored 10 goals in nine games against Arsenal.

One goal again in the match at the Emirates Stadium under rain is made by Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen own.

For Arsenal this is the second consecutive defeat after being defeated Sunderland, 0-1.

Civilian jet team show | McChord Air Show 2010

The star of this weekend’s air show at Joint Base Lewis-McChord is the civilian Patriots Jet Team.

It flies four L-39s jet trainers.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports the group’s signature move is called the “tail slide.” The planes climb straight up until the speed hits zero and they start falling tail-first through their smoke.

At 560 mph, the planes are slower than the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds, and that means they remain in view of the crowd. Lewis-McChord expects 150,000 people each day of this weekend’s Air Expo.

An alleged UFO flying over a Chinese airport | Photo and Video

An alleged UFO flying over a Chinese airport (Xiaoshan Airport in Hangzhou) on July 7th was spotted by residents in the area, and many photos and videos of the UFO have popped up on the net.



The UFO caused many inbound flights to be diverted and outbound flights to be grounded at the Chinese airport while it was seen in the sky.

Ma Shijun, who was out for a walk with his wife, describes the UFO: “I felt a beam of light over my head. Looking up, I saw a streak of bright, white light flying across the sky, so I picked up the camera and took the photo. The time was 8:26 p.m. However, whether the object was a plane, or whether it was Xiaoshan Airport’s UFO, I don’t have a clear answer.”

Of course Hangzhou meteorologists are saying that the alleged ‘UFO’ was most likely light reflecting off an airplane. What, no weather balloons out that night?

In second group Kung Fu Heroes, Fighting Gravity and Nick Pike. Again, sanity prevailed and Fighting Gravity mad e it through! Nick Pike and Kung Fu heroes did NOT.

The next group of three acts were the sister singers Christina and Ali; the painter Maricar; and the Hot Shot Tap Dancers. America voted and the singing sisters with cystic fibrosis made it through. Christina and Ali.

The last group of acts to come up for results were the RNG dance group, Future Funk and Paul Safy, Jr. However the rules suddenly changed. All of a sudden we learned that votes eliminated Paul Safy Jr., and then the judges got to choose between Future Funk and RNG.

"British Open 2010" : Tiger Woods Trailing

The once great Tiger Woods continue to have a hard time playing golf. Earlier Woods failed to win the US Open 2010 championship and now in the British Open 2010, he is also struggling.

The British Open 2010 is being done at the Old Course at St. Andrews. This golf course is famous for its Road Hole, No. 17. The hole is defined by a tee shot over the edge of the Old Course Hotel and the wall that runs along the right edge of the fairway, jutting left some 60 yards from the green.

For the first round results, Tiger Woods is currently at 5th place sooting a five under 67 at St. Andrews, Thursday. He is on a hot start making birdies on two of the first four holes but he missed easy putts on the back nine.

Leading the British Open 2010 so far is Rory McIlroy at nine under par. McIlroy fired a nine under 63 to tie the coarse record. So far he had made six birdies, including four in a row. He also made a birdie on the back nine and posted a 30 that tied the record at the British Open.

It is the 28th time that Saint Andrews has been chosen as the championship field for the sports of gold. This year we will see at the British Open 2010, Open Championship golfers Tiger Woods and John Daly.

Senator Calls Obama: "world’s best salesman of socialism"

Another prominent Republican told the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday that the president’s spending plans are pushing the country to the brink of socialism.

Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, the only member of the senate to earn a perfect rating from the American Conservative Union, called President Obama “the world’s best salesman of socialism” on Friday in describing his prime time speech earlier this week.

DeMint, a fierce opponent of government expansion, told the CPAC crowd that conservatives might have to “take to the streets to stop America’s slide into socialism.”

His remarks comes a day after Mike Huckabee told the conference of conservative activists that “the Union of American Socialist Republics is being born” with the president’s stimulus package.

“Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff,” Huckabee said of the government bailing out financial institutions.

The Simpsons to Break US Record

Animated comedy The Simpsons is to become the longest-running prime-time series in US TV history after makers Fox ordered another two seasons.

The show is currently in its 20th season which matches the record of Western drama Gunsmoke, shown on CBS, which ended in 1975.

The 21st season will begin in the autumn with the 22nd airing next year.

The Simpsons was first shown in December 1989, and made its UK debut on Sky in September 1990.

The new commission of 44 episodes over two seasons will bring the total number of shows to 493.

The popular cartoon, featuring Bart, Homer, Marge and other residents of Springfield, has received 24 Emmy awards in its 20 years on screen.

Next month, a new episode of The Simpsons is to have its premiere in the UK for the first time in the show's history.

New episodes are usually shown in the US on Fox a week before being shown on Sky1 in the UK.

In The Name Of The Grandfather, a St Patrick's Day special which details a family holiday to Ireland, will be shown on Sky1 on 17 March.

Rihanna Dons Bathing Suit in Mexico

Rihanna was photographed on the beach in Mexico, although not looking as happy as she used to.

Rihanna was photographed in Mexico soaking up some sun this week. The photos were run by New York Daily News and show a not-too-happy looking Rihanna in a bathing suit in Punta Mita, Mexico. After celebrating her 21st birthday last week, it looks like she is physically healing nicely as no apparent bruises were noticeable in the pictures.

Rumors have been floating around that Rihanna has not been all too helpful with the police because she does not want Chris Brown charged and sent to jail for the February 8 assault. The LAPD is still gathering all the evidence on the case, and a spokesperson for the L.A. District Attorney's office said, "We do not have enough evidence and there have been no charges filed on the Chris Brown case. If the state gathers up enough evidence, we will press charges with or without her testifying. It is not up to the victim."

Brown, who enrolled himself in anger management classes this week, has a court date for March 5.

Another Way Oil's Price Collapse Will Screw Alternative Energy

A big source of funding for alternative energy research looks like it is at risk of drying up.

With oil prices collapsing, big oil companies plan to cut back their capital expenditures. This means eliminating spending on the core business, like exploration of new sources of oil and maintenance of current facilities. If an oil company is willing to cut down on its core spending, then it will probably cut fringe spending, like research into how useful algae will be as an alternative fuel source.

This is bad news for alternative energy research as oil companies were one of the biggest donaters to universities exploring alternative energy technology in the past two years. According to EE News (sub. req'd), BP PLC, Chevron, ConocoPhilips, Royal Dutch Shell, and Total SA, all gave various universities $550 billion.

Interestingly, EE News notes that Exxon Mobile only doled out $100 million to Stanford University all the way back in 2002. Exxon is the best positioned of all these companies to weather the downturn in the oil prices.

This is just another way the collapse in oil prices hurts cleantech research. Thanks to the low price of oil (and the recession), people are buying fewer hybrids, their heating bills are lower, and the carbon market has collapsed, just to name a few. It all adds up to a lack of urgency to find new energy sources.

With venture funding slipping and oil companies cutting back, it looks like the government will have to drive the investment in alternative energy. Good thing Obama just stimulated the economy.
