Location sharing feature popularized Foursquare also now owned by Facebook. This week, Mark Zuckerberg founded the site is to introduce a similar feature called Places.
Just like the Foursquare, Places allows users to check in and tell friends where they are located. Thus was launched the Wall Street Journal and quoted on Thursday (19/08/2010).
The presence of this feature automatically push Facebook into a business arena geo-location based services. Obviously, such a similar service, Facebook also encourages users to be diligent in checking in with them hereafter interesting variety of discounts or other benefits.
However, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg declined to comment when asked how Facebook plans to 'monetize' Places. While industry analysts predict, Facebook users will use location data to sell more ads. "Location is a variable that can be cashed," said BGC Financial analyst, Colin Gillis.
However, this feature is optional. Users who are not interested in sharing the location will not be forced to use them. Check-in information will be shared only if the user wants it.
For now, the new Places are available for users of the United States (U.S.) through the iPhone application and mobile site Facebook. Not mentioned, when this feature is available to Facebook users globally.
